BETHLEHEM — The Rose Piano Duo will entertain the Thursday Music Club at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, at The Char House on the Boulevard, 1055 E. Bethlehem Blvd., in Bethlehem.
The Rose Piano Duo will present a concert featuring a unique blend of traditional Chinese instruments, including the Xiao, Pipa and Guzheng, alongside a special performance for piano four hands. This program will highlight the rich cultural heritage of Chinese music, paired with the Duo’s signature piano artistry, offering an introduction to captivating and diverse musical experiences.
Dr. Hsing-Yi Tsai, a native of Taiwan, earned her DMA program in piano performance at West Virginia University, where she served as a graduate teaching assistant and studied piano with Dr. Peter Amstutz and chamber music with Dr. Lucy Mauro. She previously earned both artist diploma and master of music in piano performance as a student of Dr. Wesley Roberts at Campbellsville University.
She and her husband, Dr. John Rose, are founders of the international music organization Guang Yin (Light of Music) and perform and host music events internationally as Rose Piano Duo.
Dr. Tsai serves as a professor of piano at Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania and has a recording project of solo piano music in development.
Rose, an international prize winner pianist-composer, has twice performed his own piano music at Carnegie Hall in New York City. His compositions, including solo works, opera, piano concerto, violin concerto, cello concerto, etc., have been performed in North America, Europe and Asia. He has appeared on radio and TV commenting and playing his own music and has recorded his works on various labels. He also composed a series of works for toy piano dedicated to his lovely daughter, Wynona, and his wife.
World folk music has always had a special place in his life, and Rose enjoys playing and arranging centuries-old melodies from the Americas, Scandinavia, Asia, Europe and the like for various instruments such as the toy piano, Xiao, accordion, mandolin, and ukulele. Rose is presently the music director at St. John the Evangelist Church in Bellaire and serves as Head of School at St. John Central Academy in Ohio, where he also teaches Healing Martial Arts and French.
Dr. Tsai and Dr. Rose came together to form the Rose Piano Duo in 2019, and their journey as a duo began with performances that same fall. In early 2020, they were honored to receive first place at the WVU ChaMP Competition. Over the years, they have been grateful for the opportunity to share their love of music through performances and masterclasses at Campbellsville University, as well as at other venues throughout the state of Kentucky.
