Gamecocks earn votes in polls

COLUMBIA — After its upset win vs. No. 16 Texas A&M, South Carolina football received votes in the US LBM Coaches Poll released Sunday.

The Gamecocks (5-3, 3-3 SEC) earned 33 votes. They earned their first home conference win this season on Saturday to win their second straight game. They look to win their third consecutive game on Saturday (4:15 p.m. ET, SEC Network) against No. 25 Vanderbilt (6-3, 3-2) at FirstBank Stadium.

South Carolina sits behind the following SEC teams in the Top 25: No. 2 Georgia, No. 5 Texas, No. 6 Tennessee, No. 11 Alabama, No. 13 LSU, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 16 Texas A&M, No. 22 Missouri and No. 25 Vanderbilt.

Oregon remained at No. 1 in the poll, earning 1,349 points and 53 first-place votes, and Georgia stayed at No. 2 with 1,267 points and one first-place vote.

The weekly poll is voted on by a panel of coaches chosen by random draw. Voters submit a top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place worth 24, and so on down to one point for 25th, according to USA TODAY Sports.

South Carolina rankings update

In the AP poll, South Carolina received 58 votes. It sits behind No. 2 Georgia, No. 5 Texas, No. 7 Tennessee, No. 11 Alabama, No. 14 LSU, No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 16 Ole Miss and No. 24 Vanderbilt.

SEC teams that did not make the AP Top 25 but received votes Missouri (81). Oregon stayed at No. 1 in the AP poll, earning 1,550 points and all 62 first-place votes.
