Dior Reunites With KAWS for Slithering Menswear Capsule
When Kim Jones signed on as Dior’s menswear designer in March 2018, his first runway for the following Spring 2019 season circled around a mammoth 33-foot sculpture made from thousands of pink, black and white flowers by KAWS. Later that year, the monumental collaboration led to a co-branded capsule, in which the New York-based pop artist reinterpreted Dior’s signature Bee motif on a series of ready-to-wear pieces and accessories. Now, six years later, the duo has reunited for another vivid menswear collection — this time, one covered in kaleidoscopic snake illustrations.
“KAWS is incredible as a person and an artist,” Jones said in a statement via WWD. “He is someone I really admire. It was a pleasure working with him for the summer 2019 collection and now I thought that it might be good to bring back a KAWS element.”
In their newest team-up, Jones and KAWS created pastel pink varsity jackets with slithering takes on the Dior logo crawling across the back, as well as quilted coats, bright red cardigans, button-up shirts and track pants donning the Oblique Monogram. Elsewhere, the snake motif transforms into Dior’s signature “CD” signage across ready-to-wear and accessories.
“I wanted to have something fun and pop. It’s a bit like Pop Art,” Jones added of the collaboration.
The latest Dior x KAWS collection is slated to land in Dior stores on January 2, with prices ranging from €270 EUR to €8,800 EUR. Take a look at the designs in the gallery above.
