India’s Minister of State for External Affairs to Visit Zambia

New Delhi: Kirti Vardhan Singh, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, will embark on an official visit to Zambia from 4-7 November. This visit marks a significant step in strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two nations as they commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations, an MEA press release stated.

During his visit, Singh will co-chair the 6th Session of the India-Zambia Joint Permanent Commission with his Zambian counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mulambo Haimbe. This session, scheduled for November 6, 2024, will provide a comprehensive review of all aspects of the multifaceted partnership between the two countries. The previous Joint Permanent Commission session was held in New Delhi in 2005.

In addition to the joint commission meeting, Singh will hold high-level discussions with senior Zambian government officials. He will also participate in an India-Zambia Business Round Table Conference, aiming to foster trade and investment opportunities between the two countries. Currently, bilateral trade between India and Zambia stands at USD 448.39 million (2023-24). India is a significant investor in Zambia, with pledged investments exceeding USD 5 billion.

Singh’s visit will also include an engagement with the vibrant Indian community in Lusaka, which numbers approximately 30,000 people.

The last visit by an Indian Minister of State for External Affairs to Zambia took place in October 2019.
