Mwinyi arrives in China for 7th China international import expo

BEIJING: Zanzibar President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi has arrived in Beijing, China, ahead of the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE), scheduled to run from Tuesday through Sunday.

He is accompanied by First Lady Mariam Mwinyi, along with senior government officials and business community representatives.

During a stopover in Doha, Qatar, President Mwinyi and his delegation were welcomed by Qatar’s Deputy Chief of Protocol, Youssef Al Harami.

While in Doha, they visited the historic Souq Waqif market before continuing on to China.

The CIIE, themed “New Era, Shared Future,” features an exhibition, the Hongqiao International Trade Fair and an Economic Forum.

The statement notes that Tanzania has been given the special honour of representing the African continent due to the strong turnout of more than 17 companies, including those involved in agricultural products, handicrafts and the blue economy.

“President Mwinyi will be participating in CIIE following an official invitation from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Tanzania,” the statement adds.

At the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang, other foreign leaders expected to attend at least the opening ceremony of the 7th China International Import Expo and related events include Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrai Oyun-Erdene and Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic.

CIIE is one of the world’s largest import trade fairs, anticipated to attract thousands of exhibitors and guests from over 50 countries and international organisations.
