Myanmar delegation attends 2024 Global Rural Development Forum in China

The 2024 Global Rural Development Forum took place from 29 October to 1 November, organized by China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and led by the International Poverty Reduction Centre (IPRCC) in Beijing, People’s Republic of China.
Permanent Secretary U Khant Zaw led a Myanmar’s delegation from the Ministry of Cooperative and Rural Development.
The forum included Zhang Zhili, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, alongside ministers and deputy ministers from 21 countries, such as Brazil, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Grenada, Cambodia, Laos, and Malaysia. Also present were representatives from embassies, the International Poverty Reduction Centre, United Nations agencies, and academic experts from Liaoning University and the University of Oxford.
On 30 October, the delegates visited Siji Yangkun Agricultural Technology Development Co Ltd in Beijing to examine its initiatives for boosting farmers’ incomes through e-commerce. They also explored a practical training base developed with primary and secondary schools in Daxing District, designed to promote modern agricultural methods. They visited a 79-acre watermelon farm showcasing technology-integrated cultivation practices.
The delegation later visited Longtou Village and Lijiachang Village in Lixian County, areas known for their natural beauty and traditional culture, where they reviewed the “Agricultural Produce Exhibition and Food Street” project.
On 31 October, ministers, deputy ministers, and international delegates gathered at the Beijing International Convention Centre to discuss strategies for rural development. They outlined future projects and collaboration plans, with Permanent Secretary U Khant Zaw actively contributing to the discussions.
In addition, representatives from various countries and UN organizations participated in group discussions on poverty reduction and rural development. They exchanged experiences and best practices, focusing on joint strategies to support continuous development goals. — MNA/TMT
