Every Student-Athlete Registered to Vote in 2024 Election
Loyola Athletics announced Thursday, Oct. 31 every eligible student-athlete was registered to vote in the 2024 election in partnership with Loyola Votes — Loyola’s non-partisan, university-wide voter participation effort under Loyola University Public Engagement.
This is the second presidential election in a row where 100% of Loyola’s student-athletes are registered to vote, according to a press release.
Loyola Votes partnered with Loyola’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee in June to register student-athletes to vote because they’re considered “leaders on campus.”.
During team media days, student-athletes were asked why they wanted to vote. A majority of them said they wanted to make their voices heard, especially in such an important election.
The media day images and videos were used in promotional content on Loyola Votes’ and Loyola Athletics’ social media accounts to emphasize the importance of registering and voting in this election.
Men’s soccer’s redshirt third-year forward and SAAC President Matthew Andrusko said he hoped this campaign inspired students across campus to be involved in the election.
“Being registered to vote empowers me as an individual to help decide which candidate will lead this nation,” Andrusko said. “Doing my part to be registered to vote hopefully inspires other people within the Loyola community to do the same.”
Men’s basketball head coach Drew Valentine recorded a promotional video as well, which was shared on social media platforms and even streamed during halftime of men’s and women’s soccer matches on ESPN+, according to the press release.
With their initial efforts starting in June, Loyola Votes and Loyola Athletics reached their goal Oct. 13, after all student-athletes had officially registered as voters.
