Ryan Reynolds is writing a new non-Marvel movie to reunite him with Hugh Jackman
Following the overwhelming success of his superhero sequel Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds is looking to reunite with Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy.
The 48-year-old actor and writer revealed in a new interview with Variety that he’s going to spend the next year writing a new movie he will co-star in with Jackman, 56, for Levy to direct.
‘I’m spending the year writing,’ Reynolds said during an interview, which comes after he responded to Martha Stewart saying he wasn’t funny.
‘I’m writing a movie for myself, Hugh (Jackman) and Shawn (Levy, center) to do that is not Marvel,’ Reynolds said.
The actor and scribe would not go into details about the project, though it would be the first non-Marvel movie he would star in alongside Jackman.

While Reynolds is certainly best known as an actor, he did write both Deadpool 2 and Deadpool 3 with original Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
He also created the Fubo TV series Bedtime Stories with Ryan, and he has another project in development that he wrote.
It was reported back in February 2023 that Reynolds would star in, co-write and produce a comedy film called Boy Band for Paramount.
While plot details were under wraps, the project was described as a ‘boy band reunion movie’ in a story from The Hollywood Reporter.
Reynolds co-wrote the script with Jesse Andrews (Me, Earl and the Dying Girl) and is set to produce through his company Maximum Effort.
Levy was also on board to produce through his 21 Laps Entertainment company, and he was also eyeing that as a directorial vehicle.
It’s possible that it’s Boy Band that Reynolds hinted at spending the next 12 months writing, though that remains unconfirmed.
It’s also possible that Reynolds may be writing a movie that Levy was recently tapped to produce, an adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling book Never Lie.
Levy signed on to develop and produce the film for Netflix, though no writer was mentioned when the news broke in late July.

The 2022 novel follows a newlywed couple on the search for their dream house, when they find themselves trapped at estate belonging to a renowned psychiatrist, who vanished four years prior.
The woman discovers a cache of old interviews that unravels a disturbing story about the doctor… and a patient who sounds strikingly familiar.
Given the success of Deadpool & Wolverine – which took in $636.7 million domestic and $1.337 billion worldwide – a movie that brought back the two main stars and the director would certainly be a welcomed sight for any studio.
There’s no indication if the project is set up at a studio, but Reynolds’ Maximum Effort has a first-look deal at Paramount while Levy’s 21 Laps is set up at Netflix.
Jackman first teamed with Levy in 2011’s Real Steel before this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
Reynolds first teamed with Levy in 2021’s Free Guy, followed by 2022’s The Adam Project and Deadpool & Wolverine.
