FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta announced that the club has signed a lucrative new sponsorship deal with Nike at a board meeting on Friday according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

Catalan radio station RAC1 also reported news of a deal being agreed between the La Liga soccer club and the American sportswear giant and similarly cited anonymous sources.

RAC1 further added that the board of directors approved the fresh agreement, which is essentially a contract extension that now needs Nike’s final approval and signature.

From 2024 to 2028, the agreement will reportedly be improved by around $51.4 million (€48 million) per year. Then beeyond 2028, between $62 million (€58 million) and $64 million (€60 million) more per year.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Culemania director Victor Malo confirmed RAC1‘s report and said that the deal will be the highest paid sponsorship contract in soccer worth $1.82 billion (€1.7 billion) over 14 years at an average of around $129.5 million (€121 million) per year.

Citing anonymous sources, Malo explained that the deal was expected to be agreed a week from now but everything “sped up” on Thursday night leading to an emergency board meeting being called by Laporta to authorize the arrangement.

Barca members will also have to give their final approval for the deal which Malo says comes with a $10.7 million (€10 million) signing bonus.

If the deal comes to fruition, it comes at the perfect time for Barca, which must re-register summer signings Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in addition to Andreas Christensen.

Olmo and Pau Victor could only be registered and cleared to play this season after Barca took advantage of a loophole and the fact that Christensen suffered a long-term injury.

Euro 2024 champion Olmo has been a roaring success since signing from RB Leipzig with five goals in five La Liga appearances, while a younger Pau Victor netted against Manchester City and Real Madrid on the preseason tour of the United States and has impressed off the bench since.

Because of Barca’s well-documented Financial Fair Play issues, the club has been in need of a fresh cash injection for all three men to be cleared to play under Hansi Flick in the second half of the 2024/2025 campaign.

It appears that Nike has come to the rescue, however, and an official announcement on the new sponsorship deal could be forthcoming in the next few days.
