Following an eight-year stint in-house, a senior lawyer has returned to South Australian commercial law firm DMAW Lawyers as a principal in the transaction team.
After joining DMAW Lawyers as an associate in 2013, Matthew Fisher has returned to the firm as a principal after working in-house for eight years.

Fisher has more than 15 years of legal experience with a focus on business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, property development, infrastructure and major projects, and corporate advisory.
He originally progressed to senior associate at DMAW Lawyers before moving in-house in 2017. Most recently, he was the head of legal at Adelaide Airport, and he has previously held in-house roles at Cobham Aviation and Adbri.
“I’m thrilled to be back at DMAW Lawyers and to be working with a team that is known for delivering high-quality counsel to a broad range of clients and sectors – it feels a lot like home. The firm’s highly regarded team, nimble and commercial approach to problem solving and desire to drive real and tangible value for clients were key influences in my decision to return,” Fisher said.
“Having spent the past eight years client-side, I’ve gained a unique perspective into corporate clients’ true requirements from their external legal partner. My point of difference as a legal advisor now is a greater appreciation for how we can best add value and deliver pragmatic advice to in-house legal practitioners and their executive teams.
“Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to build great relationships across a range of industries and the business community generally, so I look forward to continuing many of these valued partnerships as a trusted advisor once again.”
DMAW Lawyers chief executive Bernice Witkowski said Fisher’s in-house experience would create significant value for the firm’s clients.
“Matthew has enjoyed a successful career across his private practice and corporate roles, working with and advising top companies in South Australia and nationally. He brings with him a unique skill set gained during his recent in-house roles, which will offer a wealth of insights and even greater value to our clients. Coupling this with his private practice experience, he’s a great addition to complement our team,” she said.
“We are thrilled to welcome Matthew back as a principal at DMAW Lawyers and look forward to the positive contribution he will make as a senior practitioner within our firm.”
