Google India Files Lawsuit Against Ex-Employee in Texas
Google India has initiated legal proceedings in the United States against Harshit Roy, a former employee from its Bengaluru office, for leaking confidential trade secrets related to its Pixel devices.
The lawsuit, filed in Texas federal court, accuses Roy of stealing and publicly sharing proprietary information about Google’s chip designs.
Details of the Case by Google India
Harshit Roy, who was hired in 2020 to develop computer chips used in Google Pixel devices, allegedly stole numerous confidential documents before resigning from his position in India in February 2024.
After moving to the United States to attend a doctorate program at the University of Texas at Austin, Harshit began posting internal documents on social media platforms.
These posts included images of technical specifications for Pixel processing chips.
In response to Harshit’s actions, Google engaged an external investigator to track him down.
The investigator’s role was to prevent further dissemination of the misappropriated trade secrets.
The company issued a cease-and-desist notice to Harshit, demanding the immediate removal of the confidential information and its return.
Despite these efforts, Harshit continued to post additional trade secrets on social media, tagging competitors like Apple and Qualcomm.
Legal Action
Google’s lawsuit alleges that Harshit’s actions have caused significant harm to the company. The company is seeking an unspecified amount in monetary damages.
The company is also requesting court orders to prevent Roy from further using or sharing its trade secrets.
The lawsuit falls under the jurisdiction of both the federal Defend Trade Secrets Act (DTSA) and the Texas Uniform Trade Secrets Act (TUTSA).
The leaked information included detailed specifications of proprietary hardware and software for Pixel devices, which appeared on Harshit’s social media accounts.
This breach has caused irreparable harm to Google. It has also raised concerns about the company’s ability to protect its intellectual property.
Google’s spokesperson emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated and that the company is committed to pursuing legal action to safeguard its trade secrets.
