Kristoffer Polaha on Filming ‘The Christmas Quest’ in Iceland: A ‘Once-in-a-Lifetime’ Experience
Kristoffer Polaha, known for his work in Hallmark movies, has described his latest filming experience for the holiday adventure ‘The Christmas Quest‘ as his ‘wildest’ to date. In an exclusive interview, Polaha shared the challenges and awe-inspiring moments he and co-star Lacey Chabert encountered while filming in Iceland.
The movie, which premiered on December 1, 2024, follows Chabert’s character, an archaeologist, as she searches for the ‘legendary Treasure of the Yule Lads,’ a collection of ancient Icelandic Father Christmas figures. Polaha plays her ex-husband, an expert in ancient Norse languages. The filming process was physically demanding, with the cast facing brutally cold temperatures and a tricky climb to the top of a glacier.
One of the most memorable moments involved a hike to the top of a glacier, where they had to trek for 30 to 40 minutes to the foot of the glacier and then another 45 minutes up with a guide. During this hike, Chabert lost her footing and fell, capturing the incident on her phone.
Despite the challenges, Polaha highlighted the extraordinary beauty of Iceland. He described a night where he soaked in a hot spring hot tub at a quaint farmhouse-turned-inn and witnessed a glimmer of the Northern Lights above him. This experience, along with seeing waterfalls and exploring ice caves, made the filming a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ experience.
Polaha also mentioned that his family, including his wife Julianne and their three sons, visited during the Easter holiday. On his son Micah’s 18th birthday, they enjoyed a brilliant display of the Northern Lights and went adventuring, which Polaha shared on Instagram.
