Next-gen airport management: WAISL launches new AI-powered command center for smarter, seamless travel – Airlines/Aviation News
Amazon Web Services (AWS) India announced that WAISL Limited, a company specialising in digital transformation services with a focus on aviation, has developed an integrated Airport Operations Command Center (APOC) powered by digital twins. Built on AWS, this innovative solution aims to revolutionise airport operations and improve the passenger experience.
WAISL, which specialises in digital transformation across various industries, plans to roll out this cutting-edge solution at a major Indian airport within the next few weeks, with international deployment expected in 2025.
APOC to reduce airport congestion
The APOC uses a combination of digital twins—virtual models of an airport’s physical systems, objects, or processes—along with artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), video and data analytics, and computer vision to boost operational efficiency.
According to the company, the platform is designed to reduce airport congestion, which continues to affect airline on-time performance in India, where nearly 80 million passengers flew in the first half of 2024.
‘Nervous system of airport’
The APOC functions like the central nervous system of an airport, providing real-time monitoring, coordination, and management of key airport operations. This includes everything from check-in to security, traffic control for passengers, vehicles, and aircraft, and other crucial activities. The system will also provide passengers with real-time updates on flight details, wait times, gate changes, baggage status, and personalised recommendations for nearby restaurants and duty-free offers.
For airport personnel, airlines, and ground-handling teams, the system offers operational insights based on continuous data monitoring and analysis from various platforms within the airport ecosystem.
APOC tracks 100+ indicators for seamless operations
The digital twin-powered APOC integrates data from over 40 different systems, addressing more than 250 use cases and tracking over 100 performance indicators. By embedding AI and ML algorithms, the platform can offer predictive and prescriptive insights, such as footfall predictions and resource planning to prevent delays and optimise operations.
According to Pankaj Gupta, Leader of Public Sector, AWS India and South Asia, WAISL’s solution harnesses the vast amounts of data generated at airports and makes it easier to analyse and act upon, thanks to AWS’s resiliency, scalability, security, and low-latency services.
