USAID launches training for over 80 solar business
The United States Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is delivering a comprehensive month-long training on mini-grid technical system design to over 80 solar and electrification businesses and professionals.
The training is delivered in partnership with the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) through its Cornerstone of Rural Electrification (CORE) initiative. The expansion of the mini-grid sector is a crucial factor in growing energy access in rural communities.
“USAID is proud to support local businesses by providing opportunities to enhance the skills they need to drive sustainable electrification in Papua New Guinea. Empowering local entrepreneurs and professionals is key to expanding energy access in rural communities, to driving sustainable electrification and economic growth, and to promoting homegrown innovation in the energy sector. ” said Nino Nadiradze, USAID Country Representative to Papua New Guinea.
Key training topics include mini-grid system configurations, system sizing, component selection, and distribution grid design—skills essential for building efficient, scalable mini-grids. The course will feature practical examples and best practices shared by international expert, Andre Susanto.
Mr. Susanto is sharing Indonesia’s experience deploying photovoltaic (PV) mini grids to power villages and islands. Indonesia now has approximately 1,000 mini-grids, including hydro-powered facilities, which benefit over 200,000 people, businesses, and institutions.
“The mini-grid training in Papua New Guinea is a vital part of ARE’s CORE initiative, dedicated to equipping local communities, practitioners, and governments with the skills needed to implement sustainable mini-grids. We are especially encouraged by the enthusiasm from participants and grateful for our strong partnership with USAID in making this training possible.” Jens Jæger – Director of Policy & Business Development.
Upon completing the training, participants will receive certificates and gain access to further training opportunities.
