General Mills Embraces AI and Expands Hiring at India Center

General Mills has intensified its focus on data and digital strategies to offer personalised customer experiences, boost innovation, and speed up time to market. With generative AI taking centre stage, the company is stepping up its game to explore what lies ahead.

Earlier this year, General Mills introduced MillsChat, a private generative AI tool for employees in non-plant locations across the US, Canada, the UK, and India.

Built on Google’s Gemini model, MillsChat functions similarly to ChatGPT, providing a secure platform for writing, summarising, and brainstorming assistance. The company is also examining how AI can drive value, competitive advantage, and growth, with its commercial, marketing, and supply chain teams utilising various AI and ML products.

Founded in 1866 by Cadwallader Washburn, who purchased the largest flour mill west of the Mississippi, General Mills is a global leader in the food industry. It is known for its iconic brands such as Cheerios, Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, Nature Valley, and Häagen-Dazs. For generations, the company has made food the world loves.

This legacy continues through the General Mills India Center (GIC) in Mumbai, a vibrant hub since 1996. With over 2,000 talented professionals, this dynamic team acts as part of the global organisation, delivering exceptional value across various critical business functions, including supply chain, digital & technology, innovation, technology & quality, consumer & market intelligence, sales strategy & intelligence, global shared services, finance shared services, and human resources shared services.

As a top consumer food company, General Mills drives change with AI as its guiding force, paving the way for future success and creating food that is loved worldwide.

General Mills’ digital and technology (D&T) team has become an important ingredient in the company’s recipe for success, blending cutting-edge technology with time-honoured traditions.

“The D&T team has built a culture of innovation and growth by investing in upskilling our talent and fostering a culture of continuous learning to drive impactful business results. These efforts empower our engineers to thrive professionally,” said Ashish Mishra, Sr. Director, Digital and Technology, General Mills India Center.

Whether building agile product teams or leveraging data and analytics for end-to-end logistics optimisation, Mishra emphasised that their data-driven strategies empower our business to thrive in today’s competitive market.

“With the progress we have made to modernise our technology foundation, including cloud-based governed data and advanced tooling and automation, I am excited to see how our talent in General Mills India Center continues to drive change for the organisation,” he elaborated.
