World Bank and Armenia Discuss Large-Scale Regional Development Program

A large-scale project to improve tourism infrastructure in Armenia’s regions was discussed during a meeting between the country’s government representatives and the leadership of the World Bank’s local office.

On December 12, Armenia’s Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, met with the head of the World Bank’s Armenian office, Carolin Geginat, and the World Bank’s Senior Disaster Risk Management Specialist, Tafadzwa Dube. Deputy Minister Sevak Mikaelyan and Chair of the Tourism Committee, Lusine Gevorgyan, also participated in the discussions.

The central topic of the talks was the implementation of the Tourism and Regional Infrastructure Program (TRIP), which envisions investments totaling $100 million. The parties reviewed the results of work already completed, discussed a roadmap and action plan, and outlined further steps to ensure the program’s effective and consistent execution.

This initiative, experts note, is part of the Armenian government’s strategy to develop the country’s tourism potential and enhance regional infrastructure, aiming to foster economic growth across various regions of the country.
