Preeti Lobana takes over as country manager for Google India, Marketing & Advertising News, ET BrandEquity

Google has named Preeti Lobana as the country manager and vice president for its India business, filling the leadership role that has been vacant since July. Lobana, who previously served as vice president of advertising technology at the company, succeeds Sajnay Gupta, who earlier this year was promoted to Asia-Pacific president.

“India’s vibrant digital landscape has always been a source of immense inspiration and innovation for Google,” said Sanjay Gupta. “Her leadership and passion for customer-centricity has fueled impactful solutions for businesses across industries.”

The appointment comes at a crucial time for Google in India, one of its most strategically important markets. The company has invested billions of dollars in helping millions of Indians come online and digitizing local businesses. However, the tech giant has also faced significant regulatory challenges, including antitrust fines totaling nearly $275 million in recent years.

Lobana, who joined Google in 2016, previously worked in banking roles at prestigious institutions including NatWest, American Express, and Standard Chartered. Her extensive experience positions her to navigate the complex Indian digital ecosystem.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment to shape the future with AI, unlocking unprecedented opportunities for businesses to boost productivity,” Lobana wrote in her LinkedIn announcement. She expressed excitement about driving economic growth and delivering meaningful value across India.

Roma Datta Chobey, who served as interim lead, will now return to overseeing Google’s digital business unit in India. Gupta emphasized that Chobey’s expertise across sectors like e-commerce, fintech, gaming, and media would be instrumental in accelerating innovation.
