The average age of entrepreneurs on the list is 45, signaling a shift as younger innovators like Zepto’s Vohra and Palicha rise to prominence.
Nikhil and Nithin Kamath, co-founders of leading stock brokerage firm Zerodha, have secured the 8th spot on the ‘IDFC FIRST Private & Hurun India’s Top 200 Self-Made Entrepreneurs of the Millennium 2024’ list, with their company valued at Rs 64,800 crore. However, the highlight of the list is 21-year-old Kaivalya Vohra, co-founder of Zepto, who has emerged as the youngest self-made entrepreneur, with his company’s valuation skyrocketing to Rs 41,800 crore which is a 259% increase this year.
Kaivalya Vohra Self-made Youngest Entrepreneurs
Vohra, along with his 22-year-old co-founder Aadit Palicha, has disrupted the quick-commerce industry through Zepto’s revolutionary 10-minute grocery delivery model. The Mumbai-based startup, born out of the challenges of traditional delivery systems during the COVID-19 pandemic, has seen exponential growth, securing its place as a market leader.
The Hurun India report also features BharatPe co-founder Shashvat Nakrani (26) among young achievers. The rising influence of young entrepreneurs is evident, with one-third of the featured founders under the age of 40.
Zepto’s Cash Burn and Growth
Despite fierce competition from established players like Blinkit, BigBasket, and Swiggy Instamart, Zepto has managed to sustain its growth through aggressive spending. The company’s monthly cash burn has surged to Rs 250 crore, driven by investments in new stores, digital marketing, and talent acquisition. According to a Money Control report Zepto spends nearly Rs 120 crore monthly on digital marketing, positioning it as the leading app in its category.
This spending has been supported by successful funding rounds, including a Rs 2,500 crore infusion, enabling the company to expand its footprint in the quick-commerce sector.
Kaivalya Vohra’s Net Worth
Kaivalya Vohra, a Stanford University dropout, has cemented his place as India’s youngest self-made entrepreneur. With a net worth of Rs 3,600 crore as of August 2024, Vohra has appeared on the Hurun India Rich List for three consecutive years, first making the list in 2022 at just 19 years old.
Top Spots in the List
Deepinder Goyal of Zomato and Sriharsha Majety and Nandan Reddy of Swiggy hold the second and third spots, reflecting the dominance of online food delivery platforms in India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
