10 Actors Who Just Starred In Their Worst Movie EVER
Anyone who knows anything about Hollywood will surely appreciate that talent is only one component of a successful career; it also requires good luck and great timing, among other things. And very few actors are fortunate enough to star in consistently acclaimed, commercially successful projects, because it’s simply impossible for an actor and their agent to pick a banger film every single time. Plus, sometimes the bad movies just pay a hell of a lot better than the acclaimed prestige pics, so can you really blame actors for taking on the occasional low-effort dud?
All the same, the following 10 actors all plumbed the critical depths this past year, starring in what’s categorically their worst major movie project to date, as evidenced by the brutal reviews and perhaps also the catastrophic box office results.
While in most cases it won’t do much wider harm to their careers, there are definitely a few high-profile flops on this list which should be concerning for their stars’ future viability. And yet, Hollywood sure does love a rebound, so hopefully these actors will be back on top before we know it.
Cate Blanchett has one of the most enviable filmographies of any actor working today. In addition to her eight Oscar nominations and two wins, she’s got no outright duds to her name, and even her least-regarded films have generally received mixed reviews at worst.
That was, at least, until Borderlands.
Many fans of the hit video game franchise raised their eyebrows when Blanchett was cast as the big-screen adaptation’s version of Lilith, given that Blanchett is considerably older than the game version of the character, and simply seemed like an odd fit on paper. And by her own admission, Blanchett primarily accepted the role to get out of her lockdown funk in a particularly nasty period of the pandemic, rather than because she naturally gravitated towards the material.
While the actress brings a certain cocksure moxie to the role, there’s nothing she can do to fix Borderlands’ fundamental flaws. From its scrawled-on-a-napkin script to its lackluster action sequences and overall stapled-together feel, this is a dud that a performer as talented as Blanchett should’ve sniffed out a mile away. Then again, lockdown brain.
