4700 Yard College Football QB in Georgia, Indiana & Miami’s Radar as Best Transfer Portal Athlete

The transfer portal’s most underappreciated quarterback! The QB stepped into the transfer portal following a successful season with the California Golden Bears. When he revealed his intention to quit Cal, everyone was taken aback! And why not? By the end of the season, the six-foot-five play master had six interceptions, 3,004 throwing yards, and 16 passing TDs. According to early reports, the QB will have a wide range of admirers to pick from because there are many teams looking for a QB.

Who is the QB? Well, we are talking about none other than Fernando Mendoza. Talking about him, college football analyst Adam Breneman asked, “Where will he land?.” Do you have any idea? There is still room for the second-best QB on the transfer portal. Right now, there will be a rush of highly regarded programs to seize this chance. Adam added, “A few weeks later, he was in the transfer portal, in his thank-you letter, he said, ” for the sake of my football future, this is the decision I have reached.” The key query, though, is who will be able to acquire him.

In Adam Breneman’s words, “Now, it looks like he’s choosing between Indiana, Georgia, and Miami.” Given that he just finished his sophomore season with Cal, it is safe to assume that Mendoza will have two more seasons of eligibility remaining. Mendoza played excellent games all season long, but Cal finished with a 6-6 record. He excelled against a number of noteworthy teams, including Pitt, Miami, and Auburn. Now, it would be a terrific move for Indiana to acquire Mendoza, and it may help the next excellent-coached Cignetti team qualify for the CFB playoffs.

Intriguingly, however, Miami is the only team that was not immediately associated with Mendoza. Being a native of Miami, he is perhaps all the Hurricanes could ask for as a QB. The Bulldogs are the latest team on the transfer portal that is tied to Mendoza. Leading Mike Bobo’s offense, Mendoza might be just as effective as Beck was—possibly a little more accurate. Therefore, Kirby Smart’s Georgia has a good chance of succeeding as well.

However, it is still unclear if he is that good that so many initiatives are aimed at him. See his total yards throughout the last two years.

Cal’s QB’s potential and prowess

QB Mendoza had a stellar collegiate career, accumulating 4,712 (approx. 4700) throwing yards in 2 seasons. This is what it will look like if we evaluate it. In his rookie season (2023), he started eight games and threw 14 TDs and 10 interceptions for 1,708 yards. In his sophomore season (2024), he played all 11 games and amassed 3,004 yards, 16 TDs, and 6 interceptions. Mendoza’s growth as a QB and his important contribution to the Golden Bears’ leadership over his career is shown in his ability to rack up these yards.

Like his impeccable record, it is impossible to ignore his letter of gratitude. In order to express his gratitude for his time at Cal, Mendoza said, “I have lived a dream, and I hope everyone can understand how grateful I am to have had this opportunity.” He thanked the whole Cal community, coaches, and teammates for their support over his career. Mendoza called his colleagues “brothers,” emphasizing the close relationships he forged while attending Cal in his letter.
