EAM Jaishankar asserts India will never bow to external veto, prioritises national interests   – India News

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has stated that India will never allow others to exercise a veto over its decisions. He said that the nation would give preference to its national interests and global welfare, refusing to comply with external pressures. Speaking through a video message at an event in Mumbai, Jaishankar underlined the significance of India’s heritage and its role in addressing global challenges like climate change and stressed lifestyles.

Jaishankar underlined India’s rich cultural and civilization heritage that bears valuable lessons for the world, mainly in an era marked by globalization and rapid technological advancements. However, he reiterated that the world could only acknowledge this heritage if Indians themselves took pride in it. He added that while Bharat is progressing, it should do so by conserving its ‘’Bharatiyata’’, and by making sure that modernity and tradition coexist with harmony.

Commenting on India’s journey, Jaishankar stated how the country has always connected to progress by rejecting its traditions and getting influenced by external models, and showing discomfort with indigenous practices. For the deepening of democracy, he credits authentic voices which have been brought to the forefront and have enabled the country to rediscover its identity and cultural heritage.

Jaishankar was felicitated with the 27th SIES Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati National Eminence Award, which recognizes contributions in the fields of Public leadership, Science and Technology, Social leadership and Community leadership.

While addressing the event, he asserted that India’s independence must not be mistaken for impartiality, restating that the country is determined to make decisions independently while serving global interests.

The minister highlighted India’s unique status as a ‘’civilization state’’, mentioning that utilizing its cultural strengths is crucial for applying influence on the global stage. He urged the younger generation to admire and uphold the value of India’s heritage and to ensure that its impact vibrates at societal levels.

Jaishankar concluded by attributing India’s transformative growth in the last ten years. It has demonstrated its ability to resolve age-old challenges like discrimination and poverty. He stated that while the country has positioned itself as a global power, there is still a need to overcome long standing limitations.
