How a Portland teen musician is captivating social media

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — When you hear him sing along Peacock Lane or a music venue, you might think it’s Justin Bieber during his young teen days, but he’s Portland’s own Gus Jeffers.

The talented musician is just 14 years old and can do it all — beats, remixes, and, of course, singing.

“Last year’s been, it’s been super crazy ’cause I’ve had the opportunity to open for Nick Carter, that’s one of the Backstreet Boys,” Gus recently told KATU.

The teen is becoming an internet sensation, captivating social media with more than a million views and tens of thousands of followers. He says celebrities like Latoya Jackson have taken notice of him too.

Gus’s love for music started long before he knew what beats and lyrics were. Now, he finds himself finding any opportunity to sing.

“I just love music ’cause I always enjoyed singing. That was like my favorite thing to do. I like to sing in the shower. I like to do karaoke just for fun,” Gus added.
