Sheridan County HS Coaches Named Fall 2024 Coaches Of The Year: It’s the athletes that win the games, events, and championships, but the coaches have something to do with it.
Recently 4 Coaches and 2 Assistant Coaches from Sheridan County High Schools were honored for their accomplishments during the fall sports season.
Football Coaches Jeff Mowry of Sheridan, and Kirk McLaughlin of Big Horn as well as BH Volleyball Coach Ali Nikont, and Tongue River Girls Cross Country Coach Tim Maze were named Coaches of the Year for the Fall 2024 sports season, by the Wyoming Coaches Association.
Raith Darham of Sheridan was named the Football Co-Assistant Coach of the Year and Rachel Nichols of Big Horn was named the Volleyball Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Sheridan football team 4-peated as state champs with another 12-0 season.
Along the way the Broncs broke the record for longest winning streak in Wyoming High School Football history, and the new record sits at 43.
It is currently the 5th longest active winning streak in the country.
The Big Horn volleyball team repeated as 2A State Champs and won their 3rd title in 4 years.
The Tongue River girls cross country team won its 2nd state title in school history.
The other was in 2020.
Mountain West Conference Football: T’was the night before Christmas and those who watched the Hawai’i Bowl got their money’s worth and then some.
South Florida would prevail over San Jose State 41-39 in 5 overtimes.
The Spartans were down 21-10 at halftime, then took a 27-24 lead early in the 4th quarter, but South Florida would kick a field goal at the end of regulation to tie the game.
Both teams scored touchdowns in the first overtime, and both kicked field goals in overtime #2.
From there on out, teams can only try for 2-point conversions.
Both teams succeeded in the 3rd overtime, and both failed in overtime #4.
In the 5th OT, South Florida scored and San Jose State could not answer.
Two more Mountain West Conference teams are still waiting to play their bowl games.
Colorado State plays on Saturday in the Arizona Bowl vs. Miami of Ohio, and Boise State goes up against Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl on New Years’ Eve.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets lost last night at Phoenix 110-100.
The Nuggets next play tomorrow at home vs. Cleveland.
