Maruti Suzuki eVitara off-roading prowess revealed in new video – Car News
Maruti Suzuki eVitara is based on the eVX concept electric SUV that was showcased at the Auto Expo in January 2023 and at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023.
Maruti Suzuki will begin a new chapter next month when it will introduce its first electric vehicle (EV) at Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. Called eVitara, it will be an all-electric equivalent to the Grand Vitara. The latter is one of the only SUVs in its segment, along with its Toyota sibling— HyRyder– to offer the option of all-wheel drive functionality.
Like the ICE namesake, the eVitara will also offer all-wheel drive capabilities with a dual-motor setup. The Japanese carmaker has released a short video where the eVitara is seen being tested on challenging snowy terrains. Suzuki says that the eVitara prototype is being tested at a proving course in Hokkaido, Japan.

The objective of this test is to identify any malfunction occurring on snow roads. The video shows the eVitara emphatically carrying out drifts in the snow. The video also reveals the underpinnings of the electric SUV featuring the Heartect skateboard EV platform which rests on a sophisticated suspension setup. According to Suzuki, it is a lightweight structure, with a high-voltage protection.

The eVitara features eAxles, which integrates the motors and the inverter into a single unit. As mentioned before, eVitara will come with two battery options: 49kWh and 61 kWh. Dual-motor, all-wheel drive functionality will be offered only with the latter. The all-wheel drive variants of the eVitara will push out 181 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque. Suzuki will employ batteries made of LFP (Lithium Iron-phosphate) ‘blade’ cells sourced from BYD.
Suzuki calls the all-wheel drive technology in eVitara as e-AllGrip. It comprises a Trail mode that engages the brake on the wheel(s) which have less traction, directing the torque to the wheel(s) that have grip. This feature effectively translates into an electronic limited slip differential.
Production of the eVitara will commence at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India in spring 2025, with sales expected to begin in various countries, including Europe, India, and Japan, around summer 2025. Upon launch in India, the eVitara will rival the likes of the MG Astor, Tata Curvv EV, and the upcoming Mahindra BE 6e and Hyundai Creta EV.
