Tony Finau Makes His Intentions Very Obvious as LIV Golf Rumors Continue to Swirl
Till the time this LIV-PGA merger finally becomes a reality, rumors about PGA Tour stars jumping ship to LIV Golf are gonna keep flying around. And this time, the latest target of those rumors was none other than Tony Finau, the six-time PGA Tour winner. It all started when Finau made headlines by pulling out of the Hero World Challenge — a move that got people talking, especially since Jon Rahm did the same thing in 2023. Then, just 48 hours before the Grant Thornton Invitational kicked off, Finau withdrew from that one too. Naturally, people started to wonder: Could this be the moment Finau finally makes his move to the LIV Golf League?
But before anyone could get too excited, Finau cleared things up, and the mystery was quickly solved. He admitted that the reason for his recent withdrawals was far less dramatic than people imagined — he had to undergo knee surgery to repair a damaged meniscus and remove some cartilage. “I am disappointed to have to withdraw from the Grant Thornton Invitational,” Finau said. In fact, Finau has been pretty vocal about dismissing the idea of joining LIV Golf in the past. He called the rumors “not credible” and made it clear, “I’m more than happy where I am on the PGA Tour and look forward to 2025.” He even added, “When I tee it up in Maui, it’ll all be gone, so I’m not concerned.” Pretty straightforward, right?
Well, fast-forward to now, and it looks like Tony Finau’s had a full recovery and is back on track. His latest post on Instagram could very well be the final nail in the coffin for the LIV rumors. The golfer shared a family video with the caption, “Mele Kalikimaka! Finaus comiiiing ,” letting everyone know he’s gearing up for the next big thing. So, what’s next for Finau? He’ll be teeing it up at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in 2025, scheduled for January 2 to 5, at Kapalua in Hawaii.

What are Finau’s plans for the future?
So, now that the LIV rumors are officially out the window, what’s next for Tony Finau? Well, looking at the long-term future might be a little premature with an entire season ahead, so let’s focus on what’s coming up next.
According to @NUCLRGOLF on X, Finau’s set to play in the PGA Tour’s 66th annual American Express event, happening at PGA West in La Quinta from January 16-19, 2025. It’s going to be interesting to see if he can take down last year’s winner, Nick Dunlap, who made history by becoming the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event since Phil Mickelson back in 1991.

But it’s not going to be easy. He’s got some tough competition coming his way, with Scottie Scheffler, Tom Kim, Rickie Fowler, and others in the mix. Fans are pretty hyped about it, especially since this clears up all the LIV talk.
So, yeah, looks like Finau’s all in on the PGA Tour, and it’s going to be fun to see what he does in the next few tournaments!
