Xebia taps into tier-II cities for workforce expansion, to hire 1,500 engineers in India

US-based IT services consultancy firm Xebia is eyeing workforce expansion by hiring about 1,500 engineers in India in 2025, including talent from tier-II cities, said Global CEO Anand Sahay.

The company, whose revenue is about €400 million, has close to 6,500 employees across 16 countries – 3,000 of whom are from across India from the company’s seven centres – Gurgaon, Chennai, Pune, Jaipur, Bhopal, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Xebia was set up in India in 2006, with operations starting in 2007.

“We realised we needed to also look at tier-II cities and so, have built (centres in) Jaipur and Bhopal. Jaipur has grown a lot and we are examining Bhopal while strengthening ourselves in Hyderabad and Chennai – a city where we are beginning to find good talent. We will not shy away from Coimbatore either. Since we keep hearing about different cities having smart talent, from our perspective, we must hire them, and if it means opening new centres, we’ll do that,” Sahay explained, adding that the company’s Indian centres are like innovation teams, where solutions for European and American customers are thought through.

Tech partners

Xebia offers services, including software development, cloud computing, DevOps, data engineering, AI & machine learning, and IT consulting. While the company has a small business in India – working with several banks – a large part of its revenue comes from Europe and the US. It also has a strong footprint in West Asia. Xebia has development centres in the U.S., Latin America, Western Europe, the Nordics, and Asia Pacific.

“We also work with some GCCs in India. They came along because we were already working with these companies in the US or the UK. We are also putting a strategy together on how we can become technology partners of these upcoming GCCs,” the CEO said.

Between 2021 and 2023, Xebia acquired five companies – GetInData, Netlink Digital Solutions, 47 Degrees, SwissQ, and Appcino – to enhance some of its capabilities, including its data side.

“We look at companies in areas we are not in. For example, one of the acquisitions in Jaipur, Appcino, was for low code because Xebia was not very well known in the low-code space. Another reason is to enter a new geography. We continue to look for companies in India. Currently, our idea is to look for companies with a big customer base in America and delivery centres in India because that serves two purposes,” Sahay shared.

Xebia addresses several verticals, with the largest revenue share coming from banking and insurance at 30 per cent; 16 per cent comes from retail and hi-tech each, with other sectors including pharma, healthcare, and media.
