  • Meet the family behind  Haldiram Bhujia business empire, know the net worth and luxurious lifestyle

The Haldiram saga began in 1900 in Bikaner, where a small-town boy, Ganga Bishan Agarwal, later known as Haldiram, started his journey. In 1919, he experimented with a thinner version of ‘bhujia’ made from moth flour, which became a massive hit in Bikaner. Determined to make his snack accessible to everyone, he laid the foundation for the Haldiram legacy.

Haldiram, the iconic food brand, is now well-known across the country. Its outlets consistently draw massive crowds. But did you know who founded the business and how it grew into an empire worth thousands of crores?

The Agarwal family started the business with its famous bhujia, Haldiram. It has since become a world-renowned brand in the food industry. The family began with a small sweet shop in Bikaner, which has now transformed into a multi-crore empire. Despite its success, internal disputes within the family, along with legal battles, have tarnished its shine over the years.

Haldiram made its reach in Kolkata by 1950 where they opened ‘Haldiram Bhujiawale’. Haldiram’s sons expanded the business and shared the onus successfully.  Over a period of time, Haldiram became a brand for namkeens and sweets. At present, the company is valued at Rs 7000 crore. It has several sub-brands too like Bikaji, Bikano and Haldiram’s Prabhuji.

Over six generations, the Haldiram family has turned the venture into a successful enterprise. They all contributed to its growth from north to south. Each branch of the family has played a key role in its success across various cities in the nation.

Here are the major cities where the family runs the business-

Bikaner-  In Bikaner, Shiv Ratan Agarwal expanded the business and came with Bikaji Bhujia which is widely available in the market.

Kolkata- Haldiram’s sons Satyanarayan and Rameshwar Lal established an important base in the city and it turned into a success.

Nagpur: In 1980, Shiv Kishan Agarwal and his sister Saraswati  started the business in the city and made a strong presence in the snacks market.

Delhi: Manohar Lal and Madhusudan started the business in the national capital in 1984. It has turned into a major success and become the largest revenue generator for Haldiram.

The internal feud between family members over the name of Haldiram and its legacy put them into a bad light as they got embroiled in court cases.

The net worth of Agarwal’s family is staggering but Haldiram is valued alone at Rs 7000 crore. The family’s lifestyle is traditional with a modern approach. Despite their massive wealth, the family members prefer to live in a modest way.
