In January, Wistron signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka government to establish a laptop manufacturing plant in the state. The company has committed to investing ₹1,500 crore in the facility with plans to export over 50% of the production. Earlier, it was reported that the construction was slated to begin in July, with laptop production targeted to commence by January 2026.

Recently, Wistron acquired a 32-acre land parcel in the Hi-Tech Defence & Aerospace Park in Karnataka’s Devanahalli district for ₹160 crore. The new after-sales service production line is expected to be located near the laptop manufacturing facility.

In October 2023, the Tata Group announced its 100% acquisition of Wistron InfoComm Manufacturing (India)’s plant in Karnataka from SMS InfoComm (Singapore) and Wistron Hong Kong Limited for $131 million (over ₹1,000 crore). This acquisition made Tata Electronics the first Indian company to manufacture iPhones for both domestic and global markets.

Following its exit from the iPhone assembly business, Wistron continues to operate in India through three subsidiaries: ICT Service Management Solutions, Smartiply India, and Wistron Automotive Electronics (India). While ICT Service Management Solutions focuses on import-export, service, and maintenance operations, Smartiply India develops internet platforms and IoT-related products. Wistron Automotive Electronics, on the other hand, specialises in manufacturing, R&D, and design of automotive electronics and related products.
