Telangana goes wooing Microsoft chief Satya Nadella

Normally MNC CEOs call upon chief ministers and other government luminaries. On Monday, Telangana Chief minister A.Revanth Reddy broke normal protocol and accompanied by a high powered delegation that included IT and Industries minister D. Sridhar Babu, the chief secretary of the state and the special chief secretary IT and Industries among others called upon Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

Nadella, whose father B N Yugandhar was a well-known bureaucrat who served in the PMO during P V Narasimha Rao’s term, and is literally a son of the soil, was receptive to the State government’s call for support to make Hyderabad a world leader in the tech domain.

The tech giant’s head assured them that Microsoft would partner the Telangana government in all its initiatives, and would continue to invest in the State.

The Chief Minister explained to Nadella his plans to develop infrastructure, Future City, and new manufacturing clusters. He also told him about the Young India Skills University.

Nadella appreciated the skills and infrastructure initiatives and opined that only these two would help position Hyderabad among the Top 50 cities in the world for creating economic growth.

Significantly, Microsoft has been one of the earliest tech companies in Hyderabad and has grown to a strength of 10,000 over the years. It has also invested in data centre capacity of 600 MW in the State.

During his India visit, Nadella will be seen and heard in Bengaluru and Delhi on January 7 and 8, 2025 at the Microsoft AI Tour, where he will be delivering keynote addresses. He is expected to talk about Microsoft’s role in helping India in its journey of becoming an AI-first nation.
