Gadkari announces four infra projects to decongest Delhi roads
Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday announced four infrastructure projects for Delhi to decongest roads and reduce pollution.
He also announced a Central Road & Infrastructure Fund of ₹1,200 crore for Delhi. This comes a day after all seven BJP Delhi MPs met Mr. Gadkari and proposed the projects.
The announcement also holds importance as the Delhi Assembly election is due in February, and the model code of conduct is expected to come into force in the coming days.
The four projects, expected to cost ₹12,500 crore, include connecting Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) to the Delhi-Katra Expressway to provide a direct link to Indira Gandhi International Airport and Delhi-Mumbai Expressway for vehicles coming from Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.
The other projects are connecting UER-II near Alipore to Delhi-Dehradun Expressway near Tronica City to facilitate vehicles travelling to Dehradun from Haryana and Rajasthan; construction of tunnel from Shivamurthy to Nelson Mandela Marg to traffic congestion in Mahipalpur and Rangpuri area and connecting Delhi-Dehradun Expressway to Noida to facilitate traffic from north Delhi, north-west Delhi and south-west Delhi and bypass east Delhi.
Education hub
The BJP Delhi MPs on Thursday met with Minister of Housing and Urban Development Manohar Lal to establish an education hub and construct a world-class stadium in Narela, spreading the metro connectivity, developing NaMo Bharat corridors and expediting projects under the ‘In-situ Housing Scheme’ for slum dwellers.
They also proposed several corridors including Delhi-Saharanpur-Neemrana-Behror, Delhi-Karnal NaMo Bharat, Gurugram-Faridabad-Noida and Delhi-Jewar airport.
