MOORHEAD — Moorhead broke the game open with three-straight second-period goals and went on to defeat Buffalo on Thursday at the Moorhead Sports Center.

Moorhead’s Zac Zimmerman scored twice in the first eight minutes of the game and Brooks Cullen scored at 11:39 of the first to put the Spuds up 3-0 after one period.

Buffalo’s Blake Beckman and Harvey Ylitalo made it a one-goal game with goals in the first six minutes of the second period. But Zimmerman completed the hat trick with a power play goal at 9:21 of the second, and Tyden Bergeson followed with an unassisted short-handed goal 43 seconds later. Max Cullen scored at 13:34 to make it 6-3 Spuds after two periods.

The Spuds’ Drew Simonich, Mason Kraft and Brooks Cullen then scored goals during a 3:10 span midway through the third period.

Kraft also had four assists for a five-point night, and Bergeson, Michael Herman and Brandon Mickelson all had two assists. The Spuds outshot Buffalo 45-12.

Moorhead, Minnesota’s No. 1-ranked Class AA team, has won 12 games in a row and is 12-1 overall. The Spuds play host to No. 3-ranked St. Thomas Academy at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Moorhead Sports Center.

STA is 10-1 overall — its only loss came against Moorhead on Dec. 28 — and the Cadets play at East Grand Forks on Friday, Jan. 3.

Fargo Davies 1, Detroit Lakes/Perham 0

FARGO — Fargo Davies’ Hunter Peterson scored the game’s lone goal midway through the third period in a win over Detroit Lakes/Perham on Thursday.

Peterson scored at 7:29 of the third period on an assist from Beckett Gigstad.

The Eagles outshot DL/P 32-21. Davies goalie Breckun Metcalf stopped all 21 DL/P shots and his counterpart, Griffin Lindberg, made 31 saves.

Grand Forks Central 10, Fargo North 2

GRAND FORKS — Ryder Rivard scored four goals to lead Grand Forks Central to a win over Fargo North on Thursday at Purpur Arena.

Central’s Finn Lockwood and Jacob Spicer both scored two goals, and Trey Clauson and Chay Quamme both had three assists.

Liam Olson and Caleb Briggeman scored North’s goals.

West Fargo 8, Fargo South-Shanley 2

WEST FARGO — Bryce Mattern scored four goals as part of a five-point night and West Fargo defeated Fargo South-Shanley on Thursday at the West Fargo Sports Arena.

The Packers’ Ryan Camarillo scored two goals and had an assist, Ian Skari had a goal and three assists and Ben Petrek had a goal and two assists. Connor Kuntz and Noah Betker both had two assists.

Aaron Meyer and Skyler Burkhardt scored South-Shanley’s goals.

Packers’ goalie Michael Jacobson stopped 29 of 31 shots.

Fargo Oak Grove 81, Central Cass 76

CASSELTON — Fargo Oak Grove opened its Region 1 schedule with a win over Central Cass on Thursday.

Oak Grove is 1-0 in the region and 2-3 overall. Central Cass is 0-1 in the region and 1-3 overall.
