North India is experiencing a sharp drop in temperatures as winter sets in, accompanied by a dense fog that has significantly disrupted train operations. According to a report in India TV, reduced visibility caused delays for at least 24 trains departing from Delhi on Friday (January 3).
Among the delayed trains, the Ayodhya Express is running four hours late, the Gorakh Express is delayed by 2 hours and 50 minutes, the Bihar Kranti Express is running behind schedule by 3 hours and 20 minutes, and the Shram Shakti Express is delayed by 3 hours and 10 minutes.

‘Orange Alert’ issued for Delhi-NCR
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an “Orange Alert” for dense fog in Delhi-NCR, cautioning residents about extremely low visibility. Some areas reported zero visibility, causing significant travel disruptions. The ongoing cold wave in the region has intensified the challenges posed by the harsh winter weather.
According to weather data, visibility at Palam dropped to just 100 meters during dense fog conditions, with westerly winds blowing at 6 kmph as of 6:30 am. At Safdarjung, visibility was slightly better but still limited, with levels dropping to 300 meters under moderate fog conditions and calm winds recorded at 5:30 am.
