Egypt sends 1st humanitarian aid flight to Syria since downfall of Al-Assad’s regime

CAIRO – 4 January 2025: An Egyptian airplane carrying humanitarian aid arrived to the Damascus International Airport on Saturday morning, to be the first humanitarian aid from Egypt to Syrians after the downfall of the Al-Assad regime on December 8, 2024.


 


The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the EgyptAir civilian plane has been loaded with 1.5 tons of relief aid, medicines and food provided by the Egyptian Red Crescent to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.


 


The Chargé d’Affairs of the Egyptian Embassy in Damascus received the aid shipment at the airport, the statement added.


 


On the 31th of December 2024, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty had a phone call on Tuesday with Syria’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Asaad al Shibani.


 


During the phone conversation, Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s solidarity with Syria and its unwavering support to the legitimate rights of the Syrian people, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf.


 


Abdelatty, meanwhile, urged all Syrian parties to put the national interest above any other considerations, added the spokesman.
