Fog disrupts flight operations, over 50 trains delayed; AQI remains in ‘very poor’ category
New Delhi: A thick layer of fog enveloped Delhi on Saturday as a cold wave gripped several parts of the city, disrupting daily life. The severe weather prompted many homeless people to seek shelter at night homes set up across the national capital. The fog caused significant disruptions, with over 90 flights delayed and more than 50 trains running late, leaving travelers frustrated.
Impact on flight operations
The Delhi airport reported disruptions in flight operations due to the dense fog, advising travelers to contact their airlines for the latest updates. Over 90 flights were delayed this morning, with other airports in Srinagar, Chandigarh, Agra, Lucknow, Amritsar, Hindon, and Gwalior also experiencing zero visibility. The previous day, more than 200 flights were delayed as visibility at Indira Gandhi International Airport dropped to near zero.
Taking on X (formerly Twitter), the Delhi Airport posted, “Due to dense fog at Delhi Airport, flight operations at Delhi Airport are impacted. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight informations. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.”

In another post at 6:55 am, the Delhi Airport posted, “While landing and take offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III ompliant may get affected.”

Additionally, Indigo, Air India, and SpiceJet also reported disruptions in their flight schedules across Northern India due to poor visibility.
Train services hit by dense fog
Over 50 trains heading to Delhi were delayed due to the low visibility caused by the fog. Notably, the 22436 New Delhi Vande Bharat Express was delayed by more than four hours, and the Varanasi Vande Bharat Express faced a delay of 14 hours. Other trains, such as the New Delhi Vande Bharat Express and the Anand Vihar Terminal Superfast Express, also experienced delays of up to eight and seven hours, respectively.
