As Long as I’m Healthy, I’ll Keep Contesting – Atiku.
Former vice president and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023’s general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said he will keep contesting for the presidency as long as his physical health allows him.
Alhaji Atiku said he draws inspiration from the stories of serial contenders like the former American president, Abraham Lincoln, who contested many times before he won the US presidency.
“Even the former US President Abraham Lincoln contested seven times before finally winning.
“However, given the current state of the PDP, it is clear that a single-handed effort will not suffice to win the election. Strong support and collaboration with other parties are required,” the 77-year-old politician said.
Atiku Abubakar has contested for the highest office in the land six times in the past, coming second twice and will be 81 during the next presidential election in 2027.
On ongoing talks about a potential merger with his former running mate, Peter Obi, Atiku dismissed previous rifts, saying “This is to anybody that thinks there is going to be a misunderstanding between me and Obi, let me assure you that not even a small issue is going to happen between us.
“Also, we are going to be behind anybody that will be chosen to represent us in the forthcoming elections,” he added.
