From January 1, Albania Is Accepting EUR.1 Movement Certificates
The General Directorate of Customs has announced that, starting January 1, 2025, Albania will accept EUR.1 Movement Certificates issued electronically by countries participating in the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention.
The EUR.1 certificate is a key document in international trade, particularly in the context of various bilateral and multilateral agreements under the pan-European preferential system, such as the EU Association Agreement.
According to an announcement published on December 30, 2024, in the Official Journal of the European Union regarding the electronic issuance of EUR.1 certificates, the countries that currently issue electronic certificates and with which Albania has a free trade agreement include Norway and Turkey.
The EUR.1 Certificate of Origin verifies the preferential origin of goods from contracting parties, including EU countries, CEFTA countries, EFTA countries, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. These goods are either imported into Albania or exported from Albania to these countries to benefit from preferential treatment.
The certificate is issued by the customs authorities responsible for export procedures, based on a written application submitted by the exporter or their official representative.
