Gonzato Meets with Bogdani: Discussing the Challenges of the High Prosecutorial Council in the EU Integration Process

European Union Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, emphasized today after a meeting with Mirela Bogdani, Chair of the Prosecutorial Council, that “an effective, accountable, and independent judiciary is essential for the country’s future in the EU“.

Ambassador Gonzato shared on social media that he met with Bogdani to discuss the priorities and challenges of the High Prosecutorial Council within the context of Albania’s EU integration process. They specifically addressed the standards outlined in Chapter 23, which covers the judiciary and fundamental rights.

“I congratulated the High Prosecutorial Council for its efforts to improve the quality of justice for Albanian citizens and encouraged them to intensify these efforts,” Gonzato stated.

He concluded by reaffirming the EU’s commitment to supporting the Council in updating its practices in line with the 2016 reform and European standards, while also promoting closer coordination among all justice institutions.
