60 YEARS AGO — The first female to win The Sun’s Western Manitoba Sportsman of the Year is Lynda Kidd, Hamiota born and raised and now a Brandon College student. She is the 1964 recipient of the H. L. Crawford Memorial Award.

50 YEARS AGORandy Millwater and Dennis Wilkie got three goals each and Darren Bercier picked up the shutout as South End blanked Westridge 11-0 in a 10-year-old Community Centre Hockey League game.

40 YEARS AGO — Four goals by Ken Falloon paced the visiting Souris Elks to a 6-2 win over Deloraine Royals in a SouthWest Hockey League game. Wade Watson and Will Dooley also scored for the Elks, while Lee Ransom and Don Morrison replied for the Royals.

30 YEARS AGODarren Ritchie had three goals while teammates Wade Redden and Marty Murray added singles as the Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Tacoma Rockets 5-2 in WHL action.

20 YEARS AGOBryan Kauk, a 17-year-old rookie right-winger from Brandon, found himself part of one of 10 deals made prior to the Western Hockey League trade deadline. The Medicine Hat Tigers traded the 6-foot-1, 170-pound Kauk and 20-year-old centre Paul Gentile along with a 2005 third-round bantam draft pick to the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for 20-year-old centre Jared Lukin, a fifth-year WHLer.

10 YEARS AGODayton Heino scored twice for the Yellowhead Chiefs as they doubled up the visiting Central Plains Capitals 4-2 in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League.
