Among the most sought-after Salvadoran products abroad are sugar, confectionery, milling products, and chocolate. Sugar led the way, with exports surpassing $270.9 million, followed by bakery products with $141.9 million and fruits, vegetables, and legumes with $141.7 million. Other significant contributors include fish, crustaceans, dairy products, cocoa, and processed food items.
In addition to food, Salvadoran beverage exports totaled $164.1 million, marking a 4.9% increase from the previous year. This growth underscores the importance of the food and beverage industries, which together have expanded their reach to around 40 international markets.
Jorge Arriaza, president of the Salvadoran Association of Industrialists (ASI), emphasized the critical role of the food and beverage sectors in national production, highlighting their success in reaching over 120 countries worldwide. He pointed out that Salvadoran products, particularly nostalgic items, have become increasingly popular in the United States, where demand from Latin American communities is rapidly growing.
Arriaza also noted that the Salvadoran food industry has made significant strides in meeting international standards, such as those set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), ensuring that products are compliant and competitive in global markets.
In total, El Salvador’s exports across all sectors amounted to $5,997.9 million by November 2024, further solidifying the country’s position as a key player in international trade.
