The Importance of the Results
Over 870,000 students are awaiting the outcome of their final exams, which took place in late 2024.
This moment marks the end of their high school journey, an event filled with anticipation for students, teachers, and families alike.
For many, the matric results are a crucial stepping stone in shaping their future paths, whether it be further education or entering the workforce.
The results will determine whether students can move forward to higher education or vocational training, and will help guide them in planning the next steps of their careers with confidence.
Legal Green Light for Results
Earlier this week, the Pretoria High Court cleared the way for the publication of the matric results, ensuring that nothing stands in the way of releasing them to the public.
This legal clearance was an important final hurdle, and now the stage is set for the much-anticipated announcement.
What If You’re Unhappy With Your Results?
If you find yourself dissatisfied with your results, don’t worry—you have options! Students can request to have their exam scripts re-marked or re-checked for a fee.
Here’s a breakdown of the costs involved:
- Re-marking per subject: R120
- Re-checking per subject: R30
If you wish to view your script after a re-mark or re-check, you can do so, but the application must be made within seven days of receiving the re-mark or re-check results.
The viewing fee is R230.
Remarked results will be released on March 7, 2025, and available at the school or exam center where the exams were written.
You can apply for remarking or re-checking services at your school, local district office, or online, but remember the application deadline is January 29, 2025.
Option to Rewrite the Exams
Not satisfied with your marks? You have a chance to improve them by registering for the rewrite in May or June 2025.
The deadline for registration is February 7, 2025.
Before deciding, make sure you meet the required criteria for the rewrite.
June NSC Exams
The old February/March supplementary exams have been phased out, and a new rewrite option is available in May/June.
This is a chance for candidates to improve their results or complete any missed papers from November 2024.
Candidates may register for the June exams if they meet the following conditions:
- They were registered for the subject in the previous November exams.
- If absent from any exams for a valid reason (like medical issues or family emergencies), they can still register for the June exams.
If you were absent for a valid reason, you’ll need to take all the papers for your registered subjects.
You can find more detailed entry conditions and the deadline for registration (February 7, 2025) on the Department of Basic Education website.
What If You Don’t Qualify for the June Exams?
If you do not qualify to sit for the June NSC exams, there are still options to continue your education:
- Re-enroll as a full-time student at a school (if you’re under 21).
- Register as a part-time student at a Public Adult Education Centre.
- Pursue a Senior Certificate (SC) if you’re over 21, which is available for adults who haven’t completed their matric.
- Alternatively, explore vocational education and training at one of the 50 Public Further Education and Training (FET) colleges across South Africa.
