Canada announces additional humanitarian support – One Citizen Daily Newspaper
By Staff writer
Embassy of Canada in South Sudan has announced an increase in its humanitarian assistance to address the escalating crisis stemming from the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
In a statement, the Canadian Embassy revealed an additional One million Canadian Dollars ($1 million) in funding allocated to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
This contribution will directly support the ICRC’s critical efforts in assisting the influx of over 40,000 Sudanese refugees who have recently crossed the border into Renk County, Upper Nile State.
This latest aid package builds upon Canada’s existing commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts in South Sudan.
This funding will help provide immediate life-saving assistance including the installation of tents and WASH facilities and provision of emergency medical services to the affected population.
This allocation is part of more than $103.7 million in humanitarian assistance funding that Canada has dedicated in 2024 to respond to needs in Sudan and neighbouring countries affected by the ongoing crisis, including South Sudan.
