Satara: Countdown Begins For ‘I Love Panchgani’ Festival, Students Celebrate Art And UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals |
The countdown for the “I Love Panchgani Festival,” a celebration that showcases various artistic expressions, has officially begun. This year, the festival, which will take place from January 17 to 19, has garnered significant enthusiasm as students from local schools have been busy preparing their thoughts, artworks, and creative performances around the theme of the “17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.”
Organized by New Era High School in collaboration with the Panchgani Festival, this annual event aims to promote tourism, boost local businesses, and increase the visibility of Panchgani.
Since its inception in 2015, the people of Panchgani have celebrated the “I Love Panchgani Festival” as a way to bring together creativity, culture, and the community. In the lead-up to this year’s event, students have been actively involved in expressing their ideas on sustainable development through art and cultural programs. To set the tone for the festival, New Era High School hosted an art event at the amphitheater, a location famously known for being the filming site of the movie Taare Zameen Par. Students from various schools gathered at the venue, ready to showcase their artistic talents.
The event was inaugurated by Suniti Jha, the administrator of New Era, and Shivaji Shinde, the president of the Festival Committee, who ceremoniously cut the ribbon to mark the beginning of the celebrations. All members of the Festival Committee were present to witness the start of the event. During the ceremony, Shivaji Shinde spoke about the significance of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which were adopted in 2015 to ensure inclusive and comprehensive development worldwide by 2030. The “Art Mela,” as part of the event, was organized with the intention of encouraging students to reflect on these goals through their creative expressions.
Flash mob on forest fire awareness
A highlight of the event was a performance by film actor and director Amin Haji, who presented a flash mob to raise awareness about stopping forest fires. The cultural celebrations continued with a traditional Lezim dance, adding a vibrant touch to the festivities. Throughout the event, the participating students brought the 17 Sustainable Development Goals to life, focusing on themes such as eradicating poverty, ensuring quality education for all, addressing climate change, and protecting biodiversity, among others.
The students’ artworks were a powerful reminder of the importance of these global goals, which aim to address various challenges ranging from poverty alleviation and hunger to environmental sustainability and gender equality. The event not only provided a platform for young talent to shine but also reinforced the message that collective action is essential to creating a better and more sustainable future for all.
