Number of Foreign Tourists Visiting Armenia in 2024 Announced
In 2024, Armenia welcomed 2.215 million tourists, approximately 7% fewer than in 2023, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan reported during a year-end press conference on January 13.
The decline in overall tourist numbers was attributed solely to a reduction in Russian visitors, while the number of tourists from other countries increased.
The minister highlighted growth in arrivals from India, the UAE, France, Georgia, Iran, China, and South Korea. In December 2024 alone, Armenia received 134,000 foreign visitors, a figure comparable to the same month in 2023, indicating sustained interest in Armenia as a tourist destination.
Despite the slight decline in total numbers, the government remains committed to developing the tourism sector. The current target is set at 2.2–2.3 million visitors per year, with the Tourism Committee tasked to increase this to 2.5 million by 2026.
According to Papoyan, diversifying tourist flows will promote more sustainable growth in the industry.
