Twelve Los Angeles sports teams unite to support those impacted by wildfires

Some things are bigger than sports, and teams across the Los Angeles area are coming together to prove that in the wake of catastrophic wildfires.

The NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and L.A. Kings, MLB’s Dodgers and Angels, the NBA’s Lakers and Clippers, the NFL’s Rams and Chargers, MLS’ LAFC and LA Galaxy, the NWSL’s Angel City FC and the WNBA’s Sparks have joined forces to donate in support of all those affected by the ongoing L.A. wildfires, the teams announced in a press release Monday.

According to the release, the organizations have pledged a combined donation of more than $8 million to support victims in need, as well as those fighting the fires.

Additionally, the teams have partnered with Fanatics and the Fanatics Foundation to give out $3 million worth of merchandise to citizens who have been evacuated from their homes — from team apparel to personal hygiene kits, school supplies, sneakers and more.

On Friday, the teams and Fanatics also partnered on an “LA Strong” collection of t-shirts and apparel, with all proceeds going toward the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and the American Red Cross.

Fires have devastated the Los Angeles area for nearly a week, spreading from the Pacific Palisades to other regions of the city due to intense winds.

Numerous sporting events in the city have been postponed or relocated due to the natural disaster, including Lakers and Clippers games over the weekend and the wild-card weekend Rams game against the Minnesota Vikings.
