Honey Don’t! What we know about Aubrey Plaza and Margaret Qualley’s upcoming queer film

Following on from 2024’s Drive Away Dolls, Honey Don’t! is the second in a trilogy of lesbian B-movies from Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke.

Margaret Qualley once again has a starring role, this time as Honey O’Donahue, a private investigator drawn into a mysterious case involving Aubrey Plaza’s character.

Although details remain scarce, Honey Don’t! is reportedly set in Bakersfield, California, with Chris Evans playing a cult leader, Qualley portraying a private investigator, and Plaza as a mystery woman.

In a 2023 interview with Collider, Coen and Cooke revealed their intention to create a trilogy of queer B movies, with ‘Drive-Away Dolls’ as the first instalment and ‘Honey Don’t!’ as the second.

“Over the past 20 years, we’ve been writing this lesbian B movie trilogy,” Cooke explained.

“Not really a trilogy, but the idea was to write three queer B movies that I always thought would just kind of sit in the drawer and our kids would look at one day when they were old and get some laughs. And now we’ve made one of them.”

Coen added, “The problem with writing two is then you’re obliged to do a third because nobody does two. You gotta do a trilogy. I don’t even know the word for two corresponding to a trilogy.”

Filming reportedly wrapped in May last year, with a release date yet to be announced.
