Sylvan Lake Municipal Library’s film society returns with ‘The Fabulous Four’
The movie will begin at 7 p.m. on Jan. 27
Sylvan Lake Municipal Library’s first film of the new year at Landmark Cinemas is The Fabulous Four.
The screening on Jan. 27 is coming after a very successful year for the film society in 2024.
“Last year was such an amazing year for Film Society,” said the head programmer at the library Corrie Brown.
“We saw so many new faces and had great discussions about the movies afterward.”
Film Society is about connecting with like-minded individuals who share a love for movies and discovering films that don’t normally make it to the local theatre, Brown said.
“Being able to watch movies together and discuss them – and the impact they have on us or the memories they stir in us – is a powerful thing. Movies bring us together, no matter who we are or where we come from. We do our best to bring in unique, powerful, and timely films for our community to explore and discuss.”
The January movie pick, The Fabulous Four is a comedy by Jocelyn Moorhouse, starring Susan Sarandon, Bette Midler, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Megan Mullaly.
In the movie, four friends travel to Key West, Florida, to be bridesmaids in the surprise wedding of their best girlfriend. The trip to get there is an outrageous romp filled with the past resurfacing, sisterhood, and romance.
The Sylvan Lake Municipal Library Film Society screens six films a year at the Landmark Cinemas in town, Brown said.
“Season passes are available to purchase at the Library, allowing members to get one film free with the purchase of a pass. $50 plus GST gets you into all six movies for 2024.”
For the event, people can purchase tickets in advance at the library for $10 plus GST, until 5 p.m. on Jan. 27, or at the door at Landmark Cinemas after 6 p.m. with cash.
The film will begin at 7 p.m.

“I am excited to see Film Society grow and connect with new audiences in the coming year. There really is nothing like watching a movie on the big screen,” said Brown.
