Two Great Falls soccer coaches resign
The Great Falls Athletic Department announced resignations of two of high school soccer coaches this week with one at Great Falls High and one at Great Falls CMR.
Both vacant head soccer positions will be advertised on the GFPS website beginning this week and will be listed as “open until filled.”
Interested parties can visit gfps.k12.mt.us for further details. Applications will be submitted via the GFPS website.
Steve Skaer, head girls soccer coach at Great Falls CMR, was part of the program for five years, four as the head coach. The Rustlers qualified for the divisional playoffs in 2024 as the Eastern AA’s sixth seed.
“CM Russell High School and GFPS Athletics would like to thank Steve for all of his efforts working with the Rustler girls the past 5 years. He worked extremely hard to try and ensure that the girls had a positive athletic experience,” the press release stated. “We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Great Falls High boys soccer caoch Ian Deal also submitted his resignation. Deal had been involved in soccer at both schools over the past several years with the last three as head coach of the Bison boys. The Bison boys did not qualify for the playoffs this past year, but participated during the 2023 season.
“GFPS and GFH wish Ian the best, and thank him for all of his work in leading the Bison Boys program the past 3 seasons,” the release said.
