CANMORE – A pair of fighter jets will fly over Canmore on Saturday (Jan. 18) at approximately 1:05 p.m. in honour of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada festival.
The aircraft, two Royal Canadian Air Force CF-19 Hornet fighter jets from CFB 4 Wing in Cold Lake, Alberta, will conduct a flyby over the Fan Fest area at Canmore Golf and Curling Club at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle on their route.
“Flybys by Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft are carefully planned and closely controlled for public safety, and are dependent upon weather and flying conditions,” stated a press release from the Canadian Armed Forces.
“The Royal Canadian Air Force is proud to share in national sporting events such as this, with flybys that allow us to demonstrate the capabilities of our personnel and aircraft to Canadians.”
The hockey festival runs Jan. 15-18 and features a number of events including three games at the Canmore Recreation Centre on Saturday, a ball hockey tournament in the Fan Fest area, a kick-off concert, and the Sportsnet broadcasting live from Canmore.
