Maruti Suzuki aspires to be largest EV maker in first year of eVitara sales, ET Auto

He said that with a 60 kW charger, the eVitara will not take more than 40 minutes to charge from 20% to 80%. New Delhi: The electric passenger vehicle industry is expected to see an interesting turn of events this year.

On the Day 1 of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Maruti Suzuki showcased its first EV – eVitara, built on the Heartect-e platform. However, the company has not revealed the prices and will share it “very soon”. This comes at a time when Tata Motors has the largest share in the EV mass car market, and Hyundai is all set to take the roads with its electric Creta.

“In the very first year, we are going to be the largest EV manufacturing company in India,” Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer- Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki, told ETAuto.

He said that with a 60 kW charger, the eVitara will not take more than 40 minutes to charge from 20% to 80%.

eVitara’s lithium-ion battery pack is available in two options – 61kWh and 49kWh. It comes in three driving mode options– Eco, Normal and Sports, accompanied by a snow terrain mode for added versatility. It will deliver a driving range of over 500 km.

Maruti Suzuki said it will offer smart home chargers along with installation support and fast charging at its networks in the top 100 cities in the first phase, and then expand further. Roadside assistance will be provided all over India.

The new EV will be showcased through a phased rollout across Maruti’s Nexa dealerships. It will be exported to over 100 countries, including markets like Japan and Europe, the company said.
