Rajeev Chandrasekhar praises Digit, says it might have inspired Nvidia’s AI computer

Last night, Digit hosted its prestigious Zero1 Awards, celebrating the best tech gadgets of 2024. Known for its rigorous focus on performance, the Digit Zero1 Awards has been recognising top-performing products for over two decades. The event was graced by the presence of notable personalities, including Former Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

During his keynote speech, Chandrasekhar made a playful remark about Digit possibly inspiring Nvidia’s AI supercomputer ‘Digits’. “I don’t know whether you at Digit inspired Jensen Huang (CEO of Nvidia) or if it was the other way around, but at the Las Vegas CES 2025, he launched a desktop AI computer called Digits…. So, maybe you can take some credit for inspiring him and if you have congratulations for that as well,” he shared.

Chandrasekhar also highlighted India’s remarkable progress in the electronics and technology space. Reflecting on the past, he said that just 10 or 11 years ago, electronics manufacturing in India largely meant domestic brands designing outside and manufacturing in China. “And for the first time, in the last 3-4 years, we are seeing not just great Indian brands and of course the global brands being manufactured here but also being designed to be manufactured here,” he added.

He also outlined three key trends shaping the industry. First, the rapid digitisation of products across various sectors, driven by AI. “Even categories that are not intuitively electronic – farming, agriculture – are increasingly becoming digital,” he noted, foreseeing a rise in intelligent, ruggedised devices designed for emerging markets.  

The second trend he discussed was India’s expanding role in global electronics value chains, driven by the “China Plus One” strategy post COVID-19. “It is clear that India has this huge opportunity, and brands and companies in India will only continue to grow,” he affirmed.

Finally, he shed light on the transformative power of AI in product innovation. “Highly intelligent products are going to almost rewrite the legacy architectures of automotive, industrial, consumer tech, and compute,” he said. Concluding his keynote, he described the electronics and tech sector as “the most exciting area to be.”

The Digit Zero1 Awards are determined through a thorough testing process, where products are evaluated across 100+ parameters to find the top performers in each category. The Zero1 Awards 2024 marked yet another milestone for Digit and the tech ecosystem it continues to nurture.
